Collecting the Internet So You Don't Have To

We work on the Internet. As such, we are constantly consuming information. Believe me, there is a lot of it out there. Sometimes we even forget things unless we write them down. Our blog covers everything from web standards to the muppets, php to comic books, music and everything else that we find interesting. Leave us a note when you drop by.

Your headache you just cured with 2 Tylenol, where do you think that waste Acetaminophen goes when your body is done with it? That mood disorder drug you have been taking so you can get through the day? Or all that caffeine you have been drinking while you sit at your desk?

That’s right, it all goes into the water supply. From the obvious industrial waste all the way down to the billions of pharmaceuticals consumed each year in North America, it all runs into the sea.

Our friends over at the NFB (National Film Board of Canada) have an amazing site that you should check out. Put on your headphones, turn up the volume and drink it in. Then think about what is floating in your glass of water the next time your 3 year old asks you for a sip.

My question to the internet, is what can we do to make this topic publicly known? How can we, the little people, make a difference?

Black Gives Way to Blue is the upcoming fourth studio album by the American rock band Alice in Chains, which is due for release on September 29, 2009.[3] Not only will it be their first album in nearly fourteen years since the release of the self-titled album, but it is also their first release with new vocalist William DuVall, the replacement of the lateLayne Staley, to whom the album will be a tribute. Black Gives Way to Blue also marks the first Alice in Chains album released on Virgin Records, their first venture away fromColumbia, who released all of their previous releases. It is also one of the few instances where more than one single was released before the album’s release date.

The span of nearly fourteen years between the self-titled album and Black Gives Way to Blue marks the longest gap between studio albums in Alice in Chains’ career. The band had been working on new material since early 2006,[4] shortly before hiring DuVall as their new singer. By April 2007, Alice in Chains had been writing and demoing songs for the album,[5] but the band did not show further signs of progress until October 2008, when they announced that they had begun recording with producer Nick Raskulinecz (ofFoo FightersStone Sour and Rush fame) in the studio.[1] The writing and recording process was finally finished on March 18, 2009, guitarist Jerry Cantrell’s 43rd birthday.[2]

"Monsters vs. Aliens," which is slated for a domestic release date of March 27, 2009, reinvents the classic ’50s monster movie into an irreverent modern day action comedy.

The cast of "Monsters vs. Aliens" includes: Oscar® winner Reese Witherspoon ("Walk the Line," "Rendition") as Susan Murphy, a.k.a. Ginormica; Golden Globe winner Hugh Laurie (TV’s "House," "Stuart Little") as Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; Will Arnett (TV’s "Arrested Development," "Blades of Glory") as The Missing Link; Seth Rogen ("Knocked Up," "Superbad") as B.O.B.; Rainn Wilson ("Juno," TV’s "The Office") as Gallaxhar; Emmy winner Stephen Colbert (TV’s "The Colbert Report," "Bewitched") as The President of the United States; Golden Globe winner Kiefer Sutherland (TV’s "24," "Phone Booth") as General W.R. Monger; and Paul Rudd ("Knocked Up," "Night at the Museum") as Susan’s boyfriend, Derek.

"Monsters vs. Aliens" is directed by Rob Letterman ("Shark Tale") and Conrad Vernon ("Shrek 2"), produced by Lisa Stewart ("I Think I Love My Wife") and co-produced by Jill Hopper and Latifa Ouaou. The film marks the theatrical debut of DreamWorks Animation’s Ultimate 3-D, the studio’s proprietary production process of authoring its animated films in 3-D from start to finish.

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

Plot Summary: A new era in animated storytelling begins on 9.9.09. Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton ("The Corpse Bride," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") and Timur Bekmambetov ("Wanted," "Nightwatch") join forces to produce wunderkind director Shane Acker’s distinctively original and thrilling tale. "9" stars Elijah Wood, John C. Reilly, Jennifer Connelly, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer and Crispin Glover and features the music of Danny Elfman.

When 9 ("The Lord of the Ring’s" Elijah Wood) first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they’ll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.

Doug Ross Master of Space and Time

Visual Lizard started in a small 500 square foot office on Arthur Street back in 1996. We had no furniture, no clients, a lot of ambition and a couple of computers. We survived the first few years by working other jobs but our passion for building websites was never diminished. We knew we were talented, persevered, and in the past 14 years have seen a huge number of web design companies come and go.

So what makes us different? Quite simply put, we program websites that are elegant, usable and accessible. We assist our clients in producing sites that are functional and easy to maintain. The passion that we have for web development translates into our finished product and turns our "first time clients" into "long term partnerships."

We are not successful unless our clients are successful! We want to thank all of the clients we’ve had for allowing us to work with you to achieve your online objectives and visions. We wouldn’t be where we are without you so...THANK YOU!

We also couldn’t have done it without our staff. A dedicated team of developers with a diverse set of skills that help us to stay ahead of the technology curve. Again a THANK YOU!  goes out to all the staff and interns that we have had the pleasure of working with over the past 14 years.

So where do we go from here? We have some big plans for our small shop. We have been working on some large scale projects that will be unveiled in the near future. We are expanding our client base and have successfully completed projects in Alberta, British Columbia and California. Most recently we have programmed the new Winnipeg Art Gallery website.

Although we have moved to a nice, new office at 141 Bannatyne Avenue we want to stay in touch with our past. Feel free to drop by and check out the new space. Or drop us a line and let us know what you are up to on our contact form.

Thanks again from: Julian, Doug, Ross, Wil, Dwayne and Max. Better known as......
