Microsoft has made available a costumer preview of the upcoming Metro-enabled Windows 8. Note, it still is a beta, so it is not recommended you trust this with critical data yet.
FXI is preparing to launch Cotton Candy: a thumb drive sized computer they call the "any screen computer". With hardware specs similar to today's smartphones it runs either Android or Ubuntu (Windows and Mac via virtualization). Cotton Candy can be connected to any computer, monitor, or TV via USB or HDMI and controlled via wifi from your smartphone. Price tag: just $199
Its like TeeFury or Woot, but specifically for artwork. Going through the past gallery, I can see a couple I wouldn't have minded picking to jazz up my blank walls.

25,000,000,000 downloads? That poor AppStore that Apple has is barely getting any attention. Link above takes you to the official page at Apple. In Canada you can register without buying an app from the store.
We always knew that W3Schools resource can't be used as a reliable reference to web standards. It contains inaccurate and out dated information. To find out more about why and how it is harmful to web developers check out the link above where members of the Front-end Dev Community explain.
Today we migrated our trusty old server of three years over to a new, faster server that has 12GBs of RAM and SSD HDs. For those clients we informed of the move, everything should be up to date. Research In Motion today releases an update for the Blackberry Playbook that finally adds a native e-mail application, among other new features, ten months after the tablet's initial launch.
Things is a great to-do application, but its lack of cloud integration made me eventually switch to Wunderlist... now I have a reason to give it another go :)
Wall Street Journal reports that Google and others are "bypassing the privacy settings of millions of people using Apple Inc.'s Web browser on their iPhones and computers - tracking the Web-browsing habits of people who intended for that kind of monitoring to be blocked."
We are fans of the kids over at Panic. Steven doesn't blog much, but when he does, it is always worth a read. If you are concerned that Mountain Lion is going to force everyone to sell their apps through the Mac Appstore, go read his post. If you are even remotely interested what is coming up in OS X, go read his post.
Less than a year after Lion was released through Mac App Store, Apple is bringing more of the iOS experience to the desktop with Mountain Lion. This looks more like a "Snow Leopard" like incremental update, with the majority of the information centring on bringing iOS apps to OSX.
An OS X application that mirrors your display to an AirPlay device, typically an AppleTV. Might be useful for boardroom setups, doing away with video display cables snaking across the table.
Our virtual mentors and fellow champions of web standards over at Happy Cog have redesigned. For those of you who keep saying that web pages should not scroll, go take a look.
I knew Tumblr was popular, but I had not idea it was this popular. For all my programming amigos, read up and imagine what these numbers would mean if they applied to some of the code we write. /boggle
One of the problems with some of these "making the world a better place" groups is that, if they get large enough, they occasionally exploit the exact the same shady PR shenanigans that they rally against. Sorry, but you can't take a moral high ground while punching below the belt.
Sony Music raised cost of greatest hits set more than 60% after her death. Guess we now know why labels "needed" the ability to set variable pricing on iTunes.
