Overview

Jumbo Show Posters is a custom design & screen printing company based out of Winnipeg that produces mind-bending posters for bands and performing arts groups.  As a three-year-old company, Jumbo Show Posters wanted to plunge into the online waters so that musicians, artists and fans alike could place customized orders and review their previous work.

The site is intentionally small, providing visitors with a clear window into the company’s creative soul while at the same time encouraging customers to stay connected through an updated news wire and social networks.

Details and technical challenges

Jumboshowposters.com is a subtle, yet visually stunning site, accented by the blue and red flashing logo that tantalizes you at the top of the page. The layout and design is refined and facilitates a quick, fluid browsing experience.

As a brand new site, it was a challenge to find ways to program the site in order to allow it to remain fresh on a day-to-day basis. A news module which allows Jumbo Show Posters’ to update their content freely on the homepage combined with links to the company’s social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter) facilitate the customer’s ability to stay perpetually connected.  Visitors to the site further possess the ability to sign up for an e-newsletter which provides information on upcoming events and promotions.

The gallery section is where the site truly impresses, offering a sample portfolio of Jumbo Show Posters’ previous artwork. It was important for the gallery to be eye-catching so 340 X 540 images were laid out in such a way to stimulate the visitor’s senses and imagination. The site has a built-in system which allows multiple galleries to be uploaded should Jumbo Show Posters decide to categorize their work.

Because it was imperative for Visual Lizard to deliver an e-commerce solution for Jumbo Show Posters, a payment system using Paypal was established for the site which allows customized orders to be tracked accurately by the company.

Timeframe

The timeframe on this project was relatively short. After an initial brainstorming meeting between Visual Lizard, Jumbo Show Posters and Guppy Design, it was established that a month was required to complete the project. Over the next three weeks, design was applied to the site and e-commerce functionality was programmed so that the site could be launched by the beginning of November 2009.
