Google's DeepMind defeats top Go player Lee Se-dol
Only a few months ago the general consensus was that Go would be beyond computers for years to come. Then DeepMind beat the European champion 5-0 in October of 2015. Now Google's AI has defeated the world champion Lee Se-dol in the first game of a five game series. This is particularly interesting not only because Go is a very complex game, but also because the DeepMind program is a general purpose neural network trained on Go games, rather than a system specifically written to only play Go.
