Special Olympics Manitoba - something special

Special Olympics Manitoba came to us looking for a fresh look and some potentially new functionality all under one content management system. They also wanted to be sure that the management of content was simple so that summer students, volunteers, and interns could use it without extensive training. There was also a desire to be able to add more information to the display of events, a more robust display for the sports promoted by the organization, and the ability for potential athletes, coaches, and volunteers to apply online. These objectives were all accomplished in the latest version of Special Olympics Manitoba.

Regional News

One of the new features to the Special Olympics site was to have the latest featured news articles to display on the home page. In addition to this, they wanted to be able to assign articles to specific regions in the province. The map that is seen in the left column throughout the site takes the user to the information and news about the specific region. This allows for the customization of the content for each individual region, and a way to promote news, events, and athletes for those regions.

Promoting Sports

Special Olympics Manitoba wanted a better visual display to help them promote the sports that are available to disabled athletes here in Manitoba. The new functionality here has a structured look and feel and is easily updated and additions to the sports lists is straight forward. In addition each sport now links directly to an online athlete application form.

Sports and Event Calendars

Special Olympics Manitoba separates its fundraising and special events from its sporting events. To distinguish these, this version of the site has completely separate calendars for these two categories of events. The separation helps the user to instantly filter their event search by picking the calendar they want, whether they are looking to support an athlete by attending the competition, or to show support by fundraising or volunteering.
